Getting started

Identifying the correct chapter/s for your business (the chapters are listed further below on this page)

The main categories are called “chapters” and there are 99 chapters in total. The chapters are the main divisions and cover all the imported and exported materials into and from South Africa. Within each chapter there are Tariff codes (also known as tariff lines) which are the items listed numerically according to a code value.

If this is the first time you are working with this data, it might be a very daunting task to select the correct items for reporting purposes, but we can help you if you are not sure. To simplify the costing model, we bill per chapter, so if you have one or five tariff codes selected, within a chapter, you only pay for the chapter linked to you. Costs are described in more detail on the “Rates” page.
